Chart Two


In the second chart, focus on the story you read in Lesson 3: What's the Mystery?:

  • The Strangest Friend
  • The Abandoned House, or
  • The Case of the Ruby Earrings

The first column asks you to find examples from the stories of words or phrases that create mood and pictures in your mind. The second column asks you to think of other words or phrases the author could have used to create the same mood and pictures. Your activity is to do the following:

  1. Find two examples from the story you read in Lesson 3: What's the Mystery? of how the author created mood,then add an idea for each example of how the author could have written it differently and still created the same mood.
  2. Find two examples from the story you read in Lesson 3: What's the Mystery? of how the author created pictures with his or her words, then add an idea for each example of how the author could have written it differently but still created the same pictures.
