Hyperbole - Part A
Completion requirements
Unit 5
What Are the Traits of a Good Mystery?
Activity

Hyperbole
Hyperbole is when you use word choice to write an exaggerated statement in order to make a strong impression or
to use humour.
Writers use hyperbole to make their writing more interesting. Here are some examples of hyperbole, along with what the statements really mean. Notice how the hyperbole sounds much more interesting than the real meaning:
- Dad snores louder than a freight train! (Dad snores really loudly.)
- You are as white as a ghost! (Your face is very pale.)
- I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse! (I'm really hungry.)
