Summarize After Reading
Finding the important information in a text is part of summarizing.
You can use a blank piece of paper or blank Word document to summarize, or you can use a graphic organizer. This Summarizing organizer is an example of a graphic organizer you could use to summarize the important points in a text.
When you are summarizing, you do not have to use complete sentences. Point form is fine.

- Download the Summarizing organizer.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: When the download screen opens:
- Click the "Open with" button.
- Select "Adobe Reader".
- Click "OK".
- You will then be able to view the Summarizing organizer.
- Print the document.

Analyze What You Read
Look at the bottom of page 129 in Literacy in Action 5.
Answer the two questions in the Analyze What You Read section on the Readerβs Notebook: Reading in Social Studies page.
Save
How to save a file:
- Scan the document to your computer.
- Have the file open and select Save As from the File menu.
- Name your Reader's Notebook: Reading in Social Studies file in this format: jsmith_rnreadingsocial and save the file to your Documents folder.
