Activity
Analogies
Word analogies show relationships between words.
One of the most common types of analogies uses antonyms to compare words. Antonyms are words that are opposites.
Here are some examples of analogies using antonyms:
- Happy is to sad as loud is to quiet. (Happy and sad are antonyms, as are loud and quiet.)
- Wet is to dry as cowardly is to brave. (Wet and dry are antonyms, as are cowardly and brave.)
- Open is to close as near is to far. (Open and close are antonyms, as are near and far.)
