Summary

Similar Figures

Similar figures have corresponding sides that are in the same proportion and corresponding angles that are equal.

Scale Factor

  • The scale factor is the enlargement or reduction factor between two polygons.
  • To find the scale factor of a dilation, use this formula:
    • Scale   Factor = Dimension   of   Image Dimension   of   Original

Dilation

  • Dilation refers to the enlargement or reduction of a shape or object.
  • For a dilation scale factor greater than 1, an enlargement occurs.
  • For a dilation scale factor between 0 and 1, or a fraction less than 1, a reduction occurs.
  • The dilation of a shape or object can be performed by multiplying each point or dimension of the shape or object by the scale factor.
