Chapter 2: Transformations


In the last lesson, dilations (enlargements or reductions) were studied.




A dilation is a type of transformation. A transformation is the movement of an object by changing its position, size, and/or shape. In dilations, the size of the object is changed. In a translation, the position of a shape or object is changed.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to

  • identify a translation that was performed, given the original 2D shape or 3D object and its image
  • draw the image of a 2D shape that results from a given translation
