Translations





In the diagram, the duck labelled is the original object and the yellow ducks labelled I are the images. Each yellow duck is the same size and shape as the original duck. Only the position of the duck has changed.

Translation: the horizontal and/or vertical movement of a shape or object

The position of a shape or object can be changed by translating (moving) it horizontally or vertically or both.




The red circle,  (O represents the original circle), in the arrow diagram is translated down (vertically) to  (I represents the image). The dark blue circle, , is translated to the right (horizontally) and up (vertically), which results in the image .

Note: The horizontal movement is generally stated before the vertical movement.
