Chapter 2: Transformations

Two Reflections

It is also possible to apply two reflections to a shape. The object is first reflected in one axis and then the resulting image is reflected in the second axis.

Reflect quadrilateral PQRS in the x-axis and then in the y-axis. State the coordinates of each vertex of the final image, quadrilateral  P"Q"R"S".

Step 1: Reflect quadrilateral PQRS in the x-axis.

Step 2: Reflect quadrilateral P'Q'R'S' in the y-axis.

The coordinates of quadrilateral P"Q"R"S" are P"(–3, â€“4), Q"(–7, â€“8), R"(–8, â€“7), S"(–7, â€“2) after the two reflections have been applied.
