Chapter 2: Transformations

Summary

Reflections

  • A line of symmetry is a line that produces a mirror image if it is passed through a shape or object (or between two identical shapes or objects).

  • A reflection is a transformation that creates a mirror image of the original shape or object. The image always keeps the same size and shape as the original shape; however, the image is reversed, as in a mirror.

  • A line of reflection is a line that separates a shape or object from its reflected image. A shape can be reflected in the x-axis or y-axis.

  • A plane of symmetry is the line of reflection in a 3D object.
