Chapter 2: Transformations


In each rotation, the image (smiley face) was rotated about the centre of the graph, point (0, 0), which is also called the origin. In Math 30-3, all rotations will be made about the origin.


 

The Cartesian plane is broken up into four quadrants.
In quadrant 1, the x values are positive and the y values are positive.
In quadrant 2, the x values are negative and the y values are positive.
In quadrant 3, the x values are negative and the y values are negative.
In quadrant 4, the x values are positive and the y values are negative.

The graph to the right can be printed off and used as a reference when completing rotations.
