Analyzing puzzles and games involves logical reasoning. Using problem-solving strategies can help develop number sense and critical thinking skills.

Strategies

There are several strategies to use when solving a puzzle or to win a game.

These include:

  • guess and check
  • look for a pattern
  • make a systematic list
  • draw or model
  • eliminate possibilities
  • simplify the original problem
  • work backwards
  • develop alternative approaches
