Instructions: Click the Download File button to download a printable PDF of the questions. Answer each of the following practice questions on a separate piece of paper. Step by step solutions are provided under the Solutions tab. You will learn the material more thoroughly if you complete the questions before checking the answers.

  1. Use the table of values to answer the following.

  2. x y
    0 0
    2 15
    4 30
    6 45
    8 60

    1. Determine if the set of data represents direct variation.

    2. Draw the graph

    3. Calculate the slope.

Use the table of values to answer the following.

x y
0 0
2 15
4 30
6 45
8 60

  1. Determine if the set of data represents direct variation.

  2. Draw the graph

  3. Calculate the slope.

  1. When the x-value increases by 2, the y-value increases by 15. The data also includes the origin, (0, 0). Therefore, the table of values represents direct variation.

  2. Any two points can be used to calculate the slope. However, using the point (0, 0) will make the calculation easier.

    Let (0, 0) = (x1, y1) and (2, 15) = (x2, y2).

    m = y 2 - y 1 x 2 - x 1 = 15 - 0 2 - 0 = 15 2 = 7 . 5

    The slope is 7.5.
