Lesson 1.3: The SI System

Historically, there have been many different measuring systems. Individual countries, and sometimes individual cities, have used different systems. In 1799, in France, the metric system was introduced to replace other measuring systems used at that time. The metric system was designed to be a universal measuring system. In 1960, the metric system was reworked and launched as the International System of Units. SI is now the official measurement system used in Canada and in most other countries.
