D. Measurements with Multiple Parts
D. Measurements with Multiple Parts
Some measurements, such as feet and inches or hours and minutes, are commonly reported together. For example, someone's height may be reported as 5 feet and 9 inches instead of 69 inches. These measurements can be thought of as separate measurements added together.
For example, 3 hours and 14 minutes = 3 h + 14 min.
To convert a measurement with multiple parts into a single unit, just use unit conversions to express all parts in terms of the same unit and then add the values.
Example 1 |
Convert 2 hours and 24 minutes into minutes. Begin by converting the 2 hours into minutes.
Now add the two measurements.
