The layout of the keys differs from calculator to calculator, but whether scientific or graphing, the locations of specific functions are by design, rather than by accident. In particular, related functions are often located in close proximity. Consider
the image of the scientific calculator shown. The square root function is shown directly above the square function. As a result, it stands to reason that radicals and exponents are even more related than you might have thought. Making use of the
relationship between radicals and exponents adds to the efficiency of certain calculations.
