Lesson 5.1: Polynomial Multiplication
Unit 5: Polynomials
Previously, you have used multiplication to find the product of two or more factors. You have also used factoring to reverse this process. Numbers are not the only things that can be multiplied and factored. In this unit, you will explore the multiplication and factoring of polynomial expressions that include both numbers and variables.

Many multiplication strategies use the fact that multi-digit numbers can be split into numbers that are easier to work with. For example, 26 × 5 can be thought of as the sum of two simpler products: 26 × 5 = (20 × 5) + (6 × 5) . Simplifying the numbers
used makes the product easier to determine. Similar multiplication strategies can be used to multiply polynomial expressions.
