D. Multiplying Symbolically (without a grid)
Strategy 3: Multiplying Symbolically (without a grid)
As you become more comfortable with binomial multiplication, you may choose to determine products without using algebra tiles or a grid. Remember to multiply each term in the first binomial by each term in the second binomial.
Example 3 |
Multiply «math style=¨font-family:`Times New Roman`¨ xmlns=¨http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML¨»«mo»(«/mo»«mn»5«/mn»«mi»t«/mi»«mo»-«/mo»«mn»3«/mn»«mo»)«/mo»«mo»(«/mo»«mn»6«/mn»«mi»t«/mi»«mo»-«/mo»«mn»7«/mn»«mo»)«/mo»«/math» symbolically. Multiply each term in the first binomial by each term in the second binomial. Add these products and simplify.
