C. Sketching a Graph
C. Sketching a Graph
Sketching a graph requires careful thought about the data you wish to represent. The following graphing suggestions apply to relations involving only positive x- and y-values.
Sketching Quadrant I Graphs:
Draw the horizontal and vertical axes.
-
Label each axis according to the information or variable it represents.
-
Give the graph a title.
-
Choose a scale to use for each axis. The axes on the graph shown each start at the origin and extend to 100 with intervals that increase by 20.
-
Plot the data on the graph as ordered pairs. The following ordered pairs will be used here: {(10,10), (20,20), (30,30), (40,40), (50,50), (60,60), (70,70), (80,80), (90,90), (100,100)}
-
Depending on the set of data associated with a potential relation, the points may need to be connected with a line or simply left as unconnected points.
-
Repeat the process if you are graphing multiple relations.
