Relations can be represented in many ways including graphs, ordered pairs, tables of values, mapping diagrams, and equations. Each method of representation has advantages and disadvantages.

A function is a special type of relation that has only one output value for every input value. Functions are often expressed using function notation, which can simplify their use.
