Lesson 7.4: Parallel and Perpendicular Lines

Lesson 7.4 Part A video link here. (Video under development)

Lesson 7.4 Part B video link (Video under development).

Parallel and perpendicular lines are often used in design. Is it possible to use parallel and perpendicular relationships to help interpret graphs that include parallel or perpendicular lines?

In Lesson 7.4, you will learn about

  • the the slopes of parallel lines
  • the slopes of perpendicular lines

Warm Up

Investigation

  1. On the grid provided, sketch lines with the following characteristics.

    • A slope of 1, passing through (0, 0)
    • A slope of 1, passing through (5, 1)
    • A slope of 1, passing through (-4, 2)

  2. On the grid provided, sketch lines with the following characteristics.

    • A slope of -2, passing through (0, 0)
    • A slope of -2, passing through (3, 6)
    • A slope of -2, passing through (-7,-1)

  3. Describe the relationship between lines that have the same slope.
