Unit 1, Section 2 - Introduction

In the poetry section of this unit, you will develop the following skills: 

• Reading Literacy — how to read a written text and understand its main ideas and the tools used to communicate those main ideas
  
  
• Figurative Language and Poetic Techniques — how to examine the ways figurative language  and poetry techniques are used in poetry to impact the reader and communicate the theme
  
  
• Poetry Analysis — how to respond personally, creatively, and critically to poetry as a way to connect with and understand the texts
  
  
• Constructive Criticism — how to accept, offer, and appreciate constructive criticism
  
  
• Personal Response Essay Writing — how to respond personally to a topic in essay format
  
  
• Diploma Preparation — how to succeed on the Persuasive Writing section of your diploma exam
