In Unit 1, you learned how text creators use a variety of techniques in images and in poetry in order to impact what their audience thinks and feels.  Writers use techniques in much the same way when they are writing short stories or novels.  Literary devices are important techniques to their writing craft. 

Take time to carefully study the following tutorials on important literary elements.  It is essential you understand these terms and are able to identify them in the texts you read.
