2.4 Short Stories in Context
For this assignment, you will be applying what you have learned about context to one of the following short stories you read in this section of the unit.
If you completed the Alternate 2.2 Assignment, you may also use this story:
- “Garson” by Wayson Choy
- “Long, Long After School” by Ernest Buckler
Then, you will choose one aspect of the story’s context to change.
- “Supertoys Last All Summer Long” by Brian Aldiss
You will then rewrite one important scene from the story (one to two paragraphs maximum)—perhaps the climax—to show how changing one aspect of context changed the story.
- who was involved (details about the characters)
- where it happened
- when it happened
- why it happened
Finally, you will write a short paragraph explaining which aspect of the story’s context you changed and how it changed the story.
Follow each step on the next page, in order, to complete your assignment.
