Reading Novels

The skills and concepts you learned in the first half of Unit 2 will come in very handy in the second half of the unit, where you will apply what you have learned about short stories to your study of a novel.

If stories are “tiny windows into other worlds,” and reading them is like peering into those windows, then reading novels is like stepping through those windows, into these new realms, and living there for a while. Novels give us a chance to inhabit the lives of others, to experience the many ways others are different from us, but more importantly, to discover just how similar we all are.

–Stephen King, writer
