Focus on Effect:  Camera Movement in Film

panning

Download or print the Elements of Film Handout (in Word, Google doc, or PDF format) if you haven’t done so already. Once you’ve completed this handout, it will become a handy guide of key terms you will need throughout the unit. This process will help you become an active viewer of films and prepare you for the assignments in the unit and on your diploma exam.   1. Open the Elements of Film video.

  2. Click on the term “Camera Movement” located on the left side of the screen in the menu of the Elements of Film video.

  3. Click on the YouTube icon on the bottom of each definition’s slide to see each technique in action.  What is the effect of each technique?



  4. Record your observations on your Elements of Film Handout in the space provided.  For each camera movement, record the effects of the camera movements you observed.
