Satellite Imaging

Look at the images of Canada from Space on pages 146 to 149 in Literacy in Action.

Satellites record images in a variety of ways

  • Infrared imaging: detects temperature on the surface, and is useful both day and night. Heat energy is displayed as red, or false colour.

  • Visible imaging: relies on sufficient sunlight reflecting off Earth's surface to be viewable; it is only useful during daylight hours.

Focus on the image on page 146 of Literacy in Action and answer the questions on the Reader's Notebook: Satellite Image Chart.
