Unit 6

What Are Our Connections to the Past?

Activity

Connecting to Your History

Comparing Place Name Stories

Review once again pages 158 and 159 of Literacy in Action 6B.

Note there were differences in the "stories" behind the place names.

Most were based on fact, and one, Moose Jaw, was based on a legend (a story that has been handed down from an earlier time).

Now, think about where you live.

Click each coloured row for information about the activity.

Interesting Places

Consider interesting places near where you live or that you have visited. Or, consider stopping points on the Klondike trail, or interesting place names such as Vulcan, Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump, or Dead Man's Flats. You will choose one  place name to research.
