Some of the words in this story are hard to pronounce because they are written in the Inuktitut language.

Authors often give readers help in pronouncing words that are in a different language by using a pronunciation guide in brackets. The purpose of doing this is so that you can sound out the word easier.

Usually important and challenging words are found in the Glossary at the back of a book. If the word is difficult to pronounce, the author breaks the word into syllables inside brackets to help readers with appropriate pronunciation.

You can use the Online Dictionary to check words, spelling, and pronounciation. Type in an unfamiliar word to see the definition and synonyms. If a red audio (audio speaker) symbol appears, you can click it to hear your word pronounced.

Dictionaries are made for specific languages, so you will not find Inukitut words in an English language dictionary. However, you can use Google Translate to hear words in many languages.
