On previous pages, you learned that a lead sentence comes after the headline as an introduction to the news article.
A lead sentence includes an interesting or unusual detail about the subject of the article to catch a readerโs attention.
Download the Lead Sentences document to see different examples of lead sentences. Once you have determined what your subject will be, practice different lead sentences in the space on the bottom of the page. Save this document so you can work on it as you plan your article.

How to save a file:
- Have the file open and select Save As from the File menu.
- Name your Lead Sentences Document file in this format: jsmith_leadsentences and save the file to your Documents folder.
You also know that it is important to use proper punctuation in sentences that include quotations.
Quotations are important to include in news articles because they are direct evidence of a personโs opinion about the topic.

Find examples of more hobbies that begin with letters of the alphabet.
Complete another five hobby words. Include a picture and a word or description. If you get stuck, look at More Hobbies For Children.
Open Your File
Go to your Documents folder and open your A to Z
Hobbies
chart that you have saved there.
