Acrostic Poems


An acrostic poem uses the letters in a topic word to begin each line. All the lines in the poem relate directly to or describe the poem.

  1. Decide what hobby word your acrostic poem will be about.
  2. Write your word vertically, (up and down).
  3. Brainstorm words or phrases that describe your idea.
  4. Place your brainstormed words or phrases on the lines.

Here is an example for the word Ice Cream:

I love every flavour

Cookies and Cream

English Toffee

Chocolate Chip

Rocky Road

Even Strawberry and

Almond Fudge

Mmmmmm

Save

How to save a file:


  1. Have the file open and select Save As from the File menu.
  2. Name your Acrostic Poem file in this format: jsmith_acrosticpoem and save the file to your Documents folder.

  2. However, your teacher may ask you to submit this worksheet to check on your progress so be sure to save it in your Documents folder.
