This silly story is full of puns and groaners that will make you laugh.

It starts right on the first page, where you read in the red circle: Why did the chicken cross the road?
You may have heard that riddle before. It's a very old one, and the usual answer is, "To get to the other side". However, there are many other silly answers to that old question. This story will provide another answer.
Take a look at the pictures in the story. You can see that the illustrator has used silly pictures to enhance the humour of the story. What other techniques do you think the author will use to make you laugh? Remember to use the predict, infer, connect strategy in this story.
Reading the Story
As you read the first part of the story on pages 79 and 80 in Literacy in Action 4B, think about these questions:
- Why is there a television camera in the picture?
- Other than the chicken that's going to cross the road, who are the main characters?
- What evidence is there that the two main characters are very competitive?
