Author Techniques

What techniques did the author use in the story to make you laugh?


Choose two parts of the story that you especially liked. Identify these two parts and explain what the author did to make them funny.

Use this format for both funny parts of the story:

  • I laughed when ______. The author made me laugh by using the technique of ______.

One Example from a different story:
I laughed when I saw the rooster dressed in a jogging suit. The author made me laugh by using the technique of foolish behavior; roosters do not wear clothes and they do not go jogging.
Sneaky Joke:  Did you notice that the dog in the story is sometimes called Johnny and sometimes Mutton? Look mutton up in a dictionary or the Glossary to get the joke.
