This next selection in Literacy in Action has two parts in the form of graphic stories:

- Oak Island Money Pit, page 148

Read both selections, which communicate their message in visuals and captions.
This may be challenging, but apply what you learned about understanding visuals when you answer the questions.
- In Gold Rush!, pay attention to headings and dates listed. They will help you keep track of the story.
- In Oak Island Money Pit, read information on page 148 first, then read page 149 from the top to the bottom.
Answer During Reading questions in your Reader's Notebook: Buried Treasures document.
When finished both selections, answer After Reading questions in your Reader's Notebook: Buried Treasures document.

Now you can practise summarizing events from Gold Rush.
Look at each of the dates. There are four dates listed from the story: 1896, 1897, 1898, 1899. You should be able to find information from each one of these dates in the story selection. Again, pay attention to the headings.
Write a one sentence summary of the event from the date in the chart on the Reader's Notebook: Buried Treasures page.
Save
How to save a file:
- Have the file open and select Save As from the File menu.

Name your Reader's Notebook:
Buried
Treasures in this format: jsmith_buriedtreasures and save the file to your Documents folder.
