Mathematics 31
Introduction
Welcome to Math 31!
The Mathematics 31 course is designed to introduce students to the mathematical methods of calculus. The course acts as a link between the outcomes of the Mathematics 10C → 20-1 → 30-1 stream and the mathematics content encountered in post-secondary programs. The course builds on existing skills with functions to include a study of limits, which in turn prepares students for the study of differential and integral calculus.
Mathematics 31 emphasizes the theoretical and practical development of algebra topics at a standard acceptable for entry into all first-year programs in mathematics, science, engineering, and business. These topics include
- functions,
- trigonometry,
- differential calculus, and
- integral calculus.
Calculus is applied to problems encountered in the areas of science, engineering, business, etc.
Internet Browser
The recommended internet browser for this course is Firefox. Chrome can also be used. However, we have been experiencing issues with the loading of pages containing multiple equations. Please wait a few moments before opening an example. If you experience any issues in Chrome, please try using the Firefox browser as a first step in resolving the problem.
Calculators
Many first year university calculus courses do not allow the use of a calculator. As this course is intended to prepare students for the next level, this course has been designed as a non-calculator course. Examples in the notes, practice questions, assignments, quizzes, and exams have been designed so they can be completed without the use of a calculator.
