Trigonometry Part 1

Lesson 3: Trigonometric Equations

A second degree trigonometric equation contains a trigonometric ratio raised to the power of «math style=¨font-family:Verdana¨ xmlns=¨http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML¨»«mstyle mathsize=¨14px¨»«mn»2«/mn»«/mstyle»«/math», such as «math style=¨font-family:Verdana¨ xmlns=¨http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML¨»«mstyle mathsize=¨14px¨»«msup»«mfenced»«mrow»«mi»sin«/mi»«mo»§#952;«/mo»«/mrow»«/mfenced»«mn»2«/mn»«/msup»«/mstyle»«/math» or «math style=¨font-family:Verdana¨ xmlns=¨http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML¨»«mstyle mathsize=¨14px¨»«msup»«mfenced»«mrow»«mi»cot«/mi»«mo»§#952;«/mo»«/mrow»«/mfenced»«mn»2«/mn»«/msup»«/mstyle»«/math». They are often written as «math style=¨font-family:Verdana¨ xmlns=¨http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML¨»«mstyle mathsize=¨14px¨»«mrow»«msup»«mi»sin«/mi»«mn»2«/mn»«/msup»«mo»§#952;«/mo»«/mrow»«/mstyle»«/math» or «math style=¨font-family:Verdana¨ xmlns=¨http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML¨»«mstyle mathsize=¨14px¨»«mrow»«msup»«mi»cot«/mi»«mn»2«/mn»«/msup»«mo»§#952;«/mo»«/mrow»«/mstyle»«/math». Many of these equations will require factoring or using the square root operation.
