Lesson 1— Activity 1: All About You

Sharing Ideas
In this first activity, you are going to communicate some information about yourself. This will help you begin to share your thoughts and feelings and help you to begin to feel more comfortable sharing your ideas as the course goes on.

As you go through this course, you will do a lot of thinking about communicating. You will learn how important your audience is. (Your audience is the person or people you are communicating with.)

Do you think that the more you know about someone, the easier it is to understand them when communicating? This is likely true because you will know what the person is like. You might know what their interests are. You might know their likes and dislikes. You might know what their goals are. Knowing these things will make your conversations with them more interesting and more understandable.

Who are you? How many of these words could describe who you are?
All About You

What would you like to tell your teacher about yourself, as you begin this course?

Here
are some questions to get you started thinking  about yourself:

  • What is your name? Do you have a nickname? Were you named after someone special?
  • Where do you live? What do you like or dislike about where you live?
  • What kinds of things do you like to do? Why?
  • What kind of music or movies do you like?
  • What are your friends and family like?
  • What are you looking forward to doing in this class?
  • What words would describe you?
You may have other interesting things you could share as well.
