Lesson 27 — Activity 3: Chapters 12 and 13

Read Chapters 12 and 13. Remember to continue with the vocabulary work.

In these chapters, we start to see how the friendship between the two boys that began in the summer, continues and deepens as school starts in the fall.

We find out that Max and Kevin have been put in the same class as Kevin had his mom explain to the school that he needed someone to help him get around. That person was Max.

There are conflicts in these chapters, but as Max's friend and mentor, Kevin helps him through them.
Max and Kevin are at school in this scene from the movie.

What qualities do you want in a friend?
Qualities of Friendship:

You probably have many ideas about what qualities you look for in a friend. Most people would agree that the following qualities are very important:

loyal: someone who sticks with you, in good times and bad

trustworthy: someone who you can tell your darkest secrets to

honest: someone who tells you the truth, even when it hurts

worries about you: someone who puts you first and thinks about you all the time

engages with you: someone who spends quality time and shares experiences; is not just a digital connection (only a Facebook friend)

You may have other ideas about what makes someone a good friend. Think about these as you review Chapters 12 and 13.
