Storage, Maintenance, Inspection

Like any piece of equipment, a well-cared for ladder will last much longer!

Storage
  • don't store ladders where they could fall and become potential tripping hazards,
  • store ladders where they are protected from the weather,
  • support ladders horizontally on racks or mounted on the walls,
  • keep ladders in a well-ventilated locations, away from dampness or excessive heat, and
  • tag and remove from service any defective ladder (don't return it to storage).
Maintenance
  • keep ladders free of oil, grease, or slippery materials,
  • test moving parts to confirm they operate correctly, and
  • tighten steps and side rails as needed.
Inspection
  • check spreaders, extension ladder locks, flippers and the safety feet,
  • check the rails for damage, and
  • check for missing or broken rivets.

Note: All ladders have weight restrictions and weight limits. Regardless of how well you store and maintain a ladder .... Regardless of how often you inspect a ladder .... If you overload a ladder, it will fail!
