After you take pictures with your digital camera, you'll want to copy the pictures from your camera to your computer so you can print them, share them with others, and back them up for safe keeping. Once your pictures are on your computer, you can erase them from your camera, freeing up memory so you can take more pictures. You can also view your pictures on a larger screen and decide which ones are worth keeping.

Some digital cameras come with software that helps you copy pictures from your camera to your computer. You can use this software, but Windows XP and Mac OSX come with software to download your pictures easily

Step 1

Install on your computer the software that came with your digital camera or use Windows XP or Mac OSX operating systems.
Step 2 Use a USB cable. Most digital cameras come with a cable that connects the camera to a USB (Universal Serial Bus) port on your computer.

Step 3

Choose the folder where you want your pictures downloaded. The computer will choose the "My Pictures" folder by default unless you want them in a different folder.
Step 4 Preview the pictures. You can delete any you don't like or want. Make sure to delete them off your camera as well or the next time you download that picture will downloaded again.
Step 5 Select a picture and print. Some software will let you put borders and cute sayings on your pictures. Have fun with it.


Tips

Memory cards come in gigabytes (GB). The higher the GB card you purchase, the more pictures you'll be able to take before you have to download to your computer.

Once the pictures are downloaded to your computer, you can delete them off the memory card.

Connect your digital camera to a power adapter when downloading to your computer to keep your battery from running down. Always check your camera battery before taking pictures to ensure your camera will be ready.
