Kore wa nan desu ka.
Kore wa kotatsu desu!
A kotatsu is a table with an electric heating element underneath it.
Japanese homes don't have central heating or air conditioning. In the winter, the homes can be very cold.
A futon is placed under the table top and then the family sits with their legs underneath the futon to warm themselves up during the winter! The kids can do their homework at the kotatsu and the family can eat there, too, because the heating element under the table keeps them nice and warm!
