Writing 3.4 Typing Kanji Practice

Using your computer to type in Kanji is easy as long as you know the Kanji reading.

Step 1.  Switch your keyboard to Japanese.

Step 2.  Type out the kanji character's Romaji in your word document.

Step 3.  At first, the characters will change into Hiragana.  If you hit the space bar instead of "Enter," a list of Kanji corresponding to the Hiragana characters will appear! 

Be careful!

There can be many different words written in Hiragana in the same way but that do NOT have the same Kanji.  That is why you must be able to pick the correct Kanji that you want to show up in your word document.

For example: 

Type in the Romaji:  HASHI in your computer. 

As you type, the Hiragana characters はし will appear.

But when you hit the space bar, a list with many different Kanji will appear!

HASHI can mean "end/edge," "bridge" or "chopsticks" so you need to know which Kanji you want to use.

Type out your number reading in Romaji (example:  juugo) then hit the space bar to make the Kanji appear!
