Unit 7 Test

Tanabata, the Star Festival, celebrates an old tale about a boy and a girl who lived in the sky and who loved each other but could not be together because of parental disapproval. They were separated by the Milky Way.
The Japanese story is said to be derived from a Chinese legend.
The one day of the year that the two can see each other again is on Tanabata. But if it rains on Tanabata, they can't meet! They have to wait until the next year!
In modern day times, Tanabata is celebrated by writing wishes or poetry on pieces of paper and then tying them to bamboo branches (upper left).
In bigger cities, Tanabata is celebrated with enormous paper decorations (lower left) and there is often festival street food and music, too.
