- It is your choice as to whether you choose an experience that is positive or negative in nature, but whatever your choice, it is important that you use strong poetic voice to present the ideas.
- Your poem must demonstrate the use of strong poetic technique (use short notes for reference). If any words, such as βtheβ or βand,β or other non-meaningful words do not add to the meaning, then you should omit them from the piece. You need to make concise and meaningful word choices throughout. Write your poem, and then if time permits, put it away until the next day to allow you to see it with βnew critical eyesβ after a break from it!
- You may wish to review these Emotion or Free Verse Poems to help you with some writing ideas. Remember that your poem must be your own creation, must be original, and cannot use any words of other people.
- Complete the Personal Response Worksheet to make sure you have included enough meaningful information in your poem, and that you have used an appropriate number of poetic techniques. If you struggle to complete the worksheet, you will need to work on your poem some more.
- Once you have completed your final polished draft of your poem, choose a page layout that is attractive and appropriate, and create your final copy for submission. You will submit both your poem and your "Responding Personally to My Own Poetry" Worksheet for evaluation.
Step 4: Save your assignment as FirstnameLastname3.4CreatingPoetry.
Step 5: This assignment has been set so you can upload 2 files. Submit your poem first as draft only, and then submit your completed worksheet as draft also. Once both are submitted as draft, you
may then select submit as usual and both files will be uploaded to Moodle.
