Lesson 1 — Reflection

Know Yourself
Throughout this course, you will be asked to do some thinking about yourself and what you are learning. These will be called Reflections. There are no marks for the Reflections, instead you will receive a Complete/Incomplete from your teacher.
For this first Reflection, think about how much you know yourself and how well you do in Language Arts.
Doing better in school begins with you. If you wish to do well, you have to work hard. The first step is looking at your strengths, needs, and goals. This will help you understand the skills you already have and what you need to make school work for you.

What do you want? Why do you want to do well in school and in this course?
- Do you want to transfer from this K&E course to a course at a higher level?
- Do you want to get a certificate of achievement or a diploma to help you get a job?
- Do you want to attend a training program?
- Do you want to prove to yourself that you can do it?
Click here to write down your goals. Read them over once a week to remind yourself what you are working toward. At the end of the course, you will look at your goal sheet to see how you've done.

Now take some time to think about your strengths and your challenges.
Knowing your strengths is important. If you know how you learn best, you can use this information when choosing assignments, finding ways to study, or working alongside your teacher and classmates.

Looking at your challenges is important as well. You might want to complete the checklist twice. Once now, then later at the end of the course to see how your skills have improved.
