Assignment

You have learned about the format of the Persuasive Writing in Context assignement, how it is marked, and how students can approach the assignment. Now it is time for you to write a complete Persuasive Writing in Context assignment, based on an entirely new topic.

Follow each of these steps, in order, to complete your assignment.

Step 1:  Before you begin, examine the rubric to review how you will be assessed on this assignment. 

NOTE:  As you know, on the diploma exam, the Persuasive Writing in Context rubric contains two categories:  Thought and Support and Writing Skills.  For assignment 1.8, you will only be assessed in the Thought and Support category.  Your writing skills will be assessed in assignment 1.9, when you actually write out your response.

Step 2:  Read the assignment carefully.  What’s the Issue being debated? What is your initial opinion of the topic?  

Step 3:  Consider. What do you know based on all of information you’ve been given?

• Read the information provided with the assignment to help you understand the issue better
• Think about what you learn from each source of information provided.
• Identify details that provide support to either Accept or Reject the proposal
• Note these details in the Accept and Reject section of the following planning sheet. 

Step 4:  Download these Persuasive Writing Assignment Planning Sheets (in Word, Google doc, or PDF format).

NOTE:  On the actual diploma exam, you will NOT receive this planning sheet.  It is given to you here to help assist you in learning how to write this type of assignment.

Step 5:  Plan.  Decide whether you will advise the Prosper High School administration to either ACCEPT or REJECT the proposal.  Note your choice on your Persuasive Writing in Context Assignment Planning Sheet.

Step 6:  Organize. Complete the remainder of the Persuasive Writing in Context Assignment Planning Sheet.  If you are unsure where to start, review Riley and Darcy’s plans to organize their assignment.

Step 7:  Save your assignment in the following way: Your Full Name 1.8 Persuasive Writing in Context PLAN.

Step 8:  Submit your plan for assessment in the space provided.

Step 9:  Revise your plan once you have received feedback on your plan from your marker, and then proceed to the next assignment (writing the actual persuasive response).
