nonlinear relation: a relation whose ordered pairs on a graph do not lie on a straight line

Some of the graphs in Share 5 did not follow a straight line. Therefore, the graphs were not linear. These types of graphs are called nonlinear.

 

The diagram is titled Nonlinear Relations and shows two graphs. The first graph shows points that increase, and then decrease as you proceed to the right. The second graph is a curve that increases, decreases, and then increases again as you proceed to the right.
