Reading a Vernier Caliper

Recall from a previous math course that a vernier caliper is a measuring device that can be used to measure small linear distances.

 

Read the following measures and note the correct measure for each. If you have trouble reading the correct measure, skip ahead to Refresher.

Reading a Micrometre

Another measuring devise you should be familiar with is a micrometre.

 

Read the following measures and note the correct measure for each. If you have trouble reading the correct measure, skip ahead to Refresher.

    This is an illustration of a micrometre. The thimble is just after the first tick after the 5 on the upper side of the barrel scale. The line on the barrel points between the second and third marks after 35 on the thimble. It is exactly half way between these ticks.

  2. This is an illustration of a micrometre. The thimble is just after the third tick on the lower scale after the 0 on the barrel scale. The line on the barrel points between the second and third marks after 45 on the thimble. It is exactly half way between these ticks.
