This module deals with sloping objects and the ways in which slope can be calculated. As well, you will be using slope to calculate rates of change, like the speed of a vehicle or how quickly a tap will fill a bathtub. You will look at how the tilt of objects can affect the safety of people using them.

In the Module 3 Project: Luge Track Comparison, you will examine the slopes at Canada’s two Olympic sliding tracks. In building the tracks, athlete safety was a significant part of design and testing.

In this module you will investigate the following question:

  • What relationships exist between slope, rates, and safety?
