arithmetic mean |
the sum of the set of values divided by the number of values |
median |
the midpoint of an ordered data set; half the values are higher and half are lower |
mode |
the value that occurs most often in the data set |
trimmed mean |
the mean calculated by disregarding an equal number of data points from both ends of the data set |
weighted mean |
the mean calculated when certain values are worth more than others |
percentile rank |
the percentage of values in a data set that are lower than a given value |
Not all of these ideas come up at the same time when interpreting and analyzing data. It’s important to understand these ideas so that when they do appear, you can recall prior knowledge to help you make an informed decision.
