Module 1 Summary
The ability to reason is very useful for developing personal strategies for winning games, figuring out puzzles, and solving contextual problems.
In this module you investigated the following inquiry question: How can reasoning, set theory, and graphic organizers be used to analyze and solve games and puzzles?
You analyzed puzzles and games that involved reasoning using problem-solving strategies. You determined, explained, and verified strategies that solved puzzles or won games by using a variety of approaches.
You identified and corrected errors in a solution to a puzzle or in a strategy for winning a game. You created a variation on a puzzle or a game and described a strategy for solving the puzzle or winning the game. |

In the Module 1 Project, you created a logic puzzle that also provided a detailed solution, played the game of tic tac toe against an opponent by employing different strategies, and rewrote the prisoners and hats puzzle for a younger audience.
You also solved problems that involved the application of set theory. You were able to provide examples of different types of sets in context and organize information and explain the reasoning. You used graphic organizers, such as Venn diagrams, and explained what specific regions of the Venn diagrams represented by applying appropriate terminology like intersection, union, and complement. You solved contextual problems involving sets and record solutions using set notation as well as identified and corrected errors. You also explained how set theory is used in applications such as Internet searches, games, and puzzles. |
